DESCRIPTION
This work depicts an image made of 188,213 vertical lines of 21 different colors (corresponding to the 21 letters of the Italian alphabet) and 9,132 horizontal gray lines. Each colored vertical hatch has been associated with a letter of the alphabet (for example, the letter “U” has been associated lilac, the letter “R” with red, etc.). The alternation of colored lines therefore corresponds to the alternation of the letters of the alphabet in a word, so that, for example, the line fuchsia (associated with the letter “P”) followed pink (the letter “A”), black (the letter “N”) and light green (the letter “E”) lines, forms a group of 4 lines corresponding to the word “PANE“ (Bread).
The 1,889 horizontal gray lines, interposed between groups of colored vertical lines, correspond to the punctuation marks.
Through this coded system of colored lines, I have transcribed the entire text of the story “The Adventures of Pinocchio”. This work, therefore, depicts the image resulting from the codified transcription of Collodi’s entire story. It is, in a certain sense, the DNA of the text, the authentic image produced by the text itself, based on the letter-color assignment made preliminarily.
The letter-color pairing is not arbitrary but responds to a personal grapheme-color synesthesia.
