About the text of the Constitution – “If you want to go on pilgrimage to the birthplace of our Constitution, go to the mountains where our partisans fell, go to the prisons where they were imprisoned, go and visit the camps where they were hanged. Wherever an Italian died to redeem our freedom and dignity, go there, my boys; go there with the thought, because there was born our Constitution. “
(Piero Calamandrei -Professor of Law and former Italian politician- Address to young people held at the Società Umanitaria, Milan, January 26, 1955)
Description of the painting: Portrait of the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano.
(artist’s note – It’s my opinion that President Napolitano has represented during the last, difficult decade of the Italian Republic, a firm moral reference point and an unyielding defender of the principles of the Italian Constitution. The artwork was presented and officially handed over to the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano during a ceremony held at the Quirinale (Headquarter of the Presidency of the Italian Republic) in November 2014.
